OS/2 2.1 SERVICEPAK INFORMATION UPDATE -------------------------------------- The OS/2 2.1 ServicePak provides numerous software fixes to the OS/2 2.1 operating system, plus many additional device drivers. Since its availability, the 2.1 ServicePak has been installed by thousands of OS/2 users. Although the overall quality of the 2.1 ServicePak is very high, a few customer problems have been reported that require prompt attention. These problems will be addressed on an expedited basis. Additional problems that can be recreated will be processed as soon as possible. OS/2 2.1 SERVICEPAK PRICE REDUCTION (CD-ROM MEDIA) -------------------------------------------------- Although OS/2 quality ranks with the best in the industry, IBM provides ServicePaks as a way of attempting to ensure the highest possible customer satisfaction with the product. The ServicePaks are distributed worldwide from a variety of sources at no IBM charge to the customer: electronic bulletin boards, dealers, OS/2 clubs, etc. The ServicePaks are also available from IBM for a fee that was calculated to recover the costs of delivery. Nevertheless, customer feedback in- dicates that the price of the CD-ROM ServicePak is unacceptably high, even for those customers who realize all the costs involved in its production. Therefore, effective immediately, the price of the CD-ROM version of the ServicePak is being reset to $25.00 (U.S. only). Customers having already paid for their CD-ROM ServicePak will receive an automatic refund for the price difference from IBM. Customers should allow at least one billing cycle for the receipt of their refund. SUPPORT OF SERVICEPAK XR06200 FOR OS/2 2.1 ------------------------------------------- The OS/2 2.1 ServicePak is available via electronic network services or, for customers who do not have access to electronic networks, by the shipment of diskette or CD-ROM media. Problem reporting and support of the ServicePak is consistent with these distribution channels, as follows: Support Via Electronic Bulletin Boards Users requiring support who have access to the IBM public support forums on CompuServe, OS2BBS, and Prodigy should obtain answers to their ServicePak questions by interacting with IBM personnel who monitor those bulletin boards. Users may also report suspected defects relating to the ServicePak by completing a problem report form available on the bulletin boards. This support is ongoing. It is not limited to a 60-day entitlement period, nor does it preclude any other form of OS/2 support. Non-Network Support Users who do not have access to electronic networks and who ordered their OS/2 2.1 ServicePaks in diskette or CD-ROM media can call 1-800-992-4777 for support. In order to access this support, it is necessary to supply the registration number that was included on an enclosure with the ServicePak. This support expires after 60 days. This support does not affect any other support provided with the OS/2 product, for example, the initial sixty-day support provided with the OS/2 2.1 product or any support purchased through a fee-based offering. * CompuServe is a trademark of CompuServe Information Services * OS/2 is a trademark of IBM Corporation * Prodigy is a trademark of Prodigy Services
