Redial Multiple Numbers Using OS/2 Warp's
                            Internet Access Kit

Thanks to Don Russell, there is an easy way to set up OS/2 to
automatically redial a single number or a series of numbers using the
"Dial Other Internet Provider" program. Specifically, what follows shows
you how you can do this with Compuserve -- easily.

The major features of this script are that it automatically redials a list
of numbers simply by putting that list in the same place you now put the
single number and, when you finally do break through, it beeps to let you
know.

                          Setting up PPDIAL28.ZIP

The first thing you need to do is get your hands on the most recent
version of Don's PPPDIAL.CMD script. If you have access to FTP, you can
get the zipped version from ftp.cam.org in /users/tomlins or from
hobbes.nmsu.edu in /incoming. The file will be of the form PPDIAL28.ZIP.
If you don't have access to FTP (yet), I imagine the file is somewhere in
this forum or will be soon.

Unzip that file to a temporary directory and run PPPDIAL.CMD. Just to
make sure we are on the same page, the program should have moved itself to
C:\TCPIP\BIN.

                           Setting up CSERVE.RSP

Accompanying the file you're reading is a file called CSERVE.RSP. Move it
into the C:\TCPIP\BIN directory.

Setting up to Dial Other Internet Providers

PAGE 1 OF 4:

Now run the "Dial Other Internet Provider" program, and click on the "Add
Entry" icon.

If you don't have a preference, in the "*Name:" field, put "CIS" (all
caps--there used to be a bug.)

If you don't have a preference, in the "Description:" field, put "CServe".

My Compuserve Login ID is "74011,2775"; so in the "Login ID:" field, I put
"74011.2775" (with a period instead of a comma).

Type your password into the "Password:" field.

Check "Required" (if it isn't already checked).

MULTIPLE PHONE NUMBERS: Now enter your phone number(s) in the "Phone
Number:" field separating each number with a single space.

(I have made the assumption that because I turn off
caller id everyone should. If your preference is
otherwise, then delete the line that begins with
          "[PPPDIAL_PREFIX]" in C:\TCPIP\BIN\CSERVE.RSP.

(The "Phone Number:" field has room enough for seven
or eight numbers. If that's not enough, you can use
your text editor to insert the following line into
          C:\TCPIP\BIN\CSERVE.RSP: "[PPPDIAL_PHONE] xxx-yyyy
          xxx-yyyy ...".)

In the "Login Sequence" field, delete the "NONE". Now WITHOUT PRESSING
THE ENTER KEY, type in "pppdial.cmd c:\tcpip\bin\cserve.rsp". Don't worry
if the text wraps so long as you DON'T PRESS THE ENTER KEY.

Choose "PPP" as the "Connection Type". Which reminds me, if you haven't
done so, you should upgrade to the latest version of this program. (I'm
currently using Version 2.0 Revision 1.16.)

I generally wait 15 minutes before hanging up.

PAGE 2 OF 4:

The following fields should be inaccessible: "*Your IP Address:",
"*Destination IP Address:", "Netmask:".

Put 1500 in "*MRU Size:" (if it isn't already there).

Check VJ Compression (if it isn't already checked).

For "*Domain Nameserver:", put "149.174.211.5".

Leave blank "Your Host Name:".

In "*Your Domain Name:", put "compuserve.com".

PAGE 3 OF 4:

"News Server:" = "news.compuserve.com"
"Gopher Server:" = "gopher.micro.umn.edu" (if you have no preference).
"WWW Server:" = "http://www.compuserve.com/" (if you have no preference).
"Mail Gateway:" = "mailgate.compuserve.com" (you have _outgoing_ mail).
"Pop Mail Server:" = leave it blank (you don't yet have incoming).
"Reply Domain:" = "compuserve.com"
"Reply (Mail) ID:" = "74011.2775" (for me).
"POP Login ID:" = leave blank until CServe wises up.
"POP Password:" = ditto.

PAGE 4 OF 4:

"Modem Type:" = should be inaccessible.
"Com Port:" = whatever your com port is.
"Speed (Baud): = "57600" or slower if you haven't upgraded your
                  communication drivers.
"Data Bits:" = "8" (very important).
"Parity:" = NONE.
The rest of the page should be inaccessible.

Now save this set up by double-clicking on the button in the upper
left-hand corner, and give it a try by clicking on the "Dial" icon. There
is plenty to enter, so if it doesn't work the first time, make sure you
typed everything in correctly.

P.S. I use a U.S. Robotics Sportster 28.8 with an initialization string
of "AT&F1S11=50L3". If your needs are different, simply edit the line in
C:\TCPIP\BIN\CSERVE.RSP that begins with either "[PPPDIAL_INIT1]" or
"[PPPDIAL_INIT2]".
