Fidonet History
FidoNet was started in
the early
1980's by Tom Jennings in San Francisco, California and some friends of
his who lived in Baltimore, Maryland.
Initially, communications consisted of simple messages going back and
forth
between these systems. Tom's Fido software was the next step in
allowing
a BBS (Bulletin Board System) to exist in the
network.
At FidoNet's peak in the 1990's, some 30,000 systems communicated
worldwide in the FidoNet network.
A few people have
documented the
very early days of Fidonet.
